Suoni and Meditations

Gerard is trumpet soloist and member of the Suoni Ensemble.

This acclaimed group of musicians come together from different music worlds to tell stories from cherished works of literature, with music created by Irish composer Siobhan Lamb.

Gerard first started working with the ensemble on a piece entitled Meditations (released on the Naxos label). This is an entirely acoustic work based on celebrated poems and is performed in beautiful performance spaces.

Gerard believes that this is some of his most exciting and challenging solo work, taking him into unamplified environments where he can explore his sound and language, storytelling and character development, as an actor might.

Suoni is Italian for sound and each member of the ensemble is hand picked for their unique sound quality and their desire to tell stories through music making. Through the performance and development of Siobhan Lamb’s work, ideas can be shared with new audiences.

Meditations has received glowing reviews following its London premiere at the London Jazz Festival in November, described as ‘unmissable’, ‘tantalising’ and ‘expansively beautiful’. (Guardian newspaper)

The Suoni Ensemble have released two albums for Naxos with a third planned for 2017 that is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s story The Red Shoes. This new piece features a tap dancer. The ensemble musicians also play characters within the story and will be performing this work throughout 2017 to audiences young and old across the globe, with support from Danish Radio’s children’s music division, Musikariet.
